Near the pool, our swimming place.

The long line filled with homemade sound
Marching, giggling, flags a’waving
Stars and Stripes with zeal abound.

At last the shade
For the final song so grand
Majorette upon the chair
Stirs Yankee Doodle from the band.

The lemonade
Brought out to quench the thirsty throng
Fresh squeezed, chilled, and so delicious
Sips and smiles to all belong.

The last guests stayed
Until the sun had long since set
Hot dogs finished, campfire dying
One more tradition, can’t forget.

I’d never trade
That one last plunge to close the fun
Into the pool shined on by moonlight
Then out we come, parade day’s done.
